Question
my sister's cat goes to the bathroom in the cat box except like 5 times a week i find poop behind my tv, the catbox is cleaned 4 times a day and he seems to go behind the tv even right after the box has been cleaned...my sister and her cat moved in with me about 3 months ago, he has had accidents like this in the past but never as often. Is there anything i can do to make him stop because i have 3 cats myself and they have always went to the bathroom where they are supposed to and im afraid that if this cat keeps doing this my cats will think it is ok...And its not real fun to clean of carpet either....please help

Answer
Amanda,

Have you tried having another litter pan. Cats can get very territorial about litter pans, so he may object to sharing only one litter pan with the established cats.  Our rule of thumb is one litter pan for every two cats.

When you clean the carpet, I would use an enzyme based cleaner specifically for pet stains and pet odors (available at most pet supermarkets and farm stores). You can also try taping some aluminum foil on the area where the cat is pooping. Cats hate the feel of tin foil.

You might also read the articles pointed to by this link for some further suggestions:
