Question
I am 80% sure my cat conceived on or around Thanksgiving. Any day now I am expecting her to give birth. She is licking herself a lot more than normal, and she is more affectionate than usual. Earlier she was discharging a cream color substance from her vaginal area and she was cleaning it as it came. I had to leave to go to work and I confined her to my bedroom where I have her birthing box all ready. I left work to check up on her and now her vaginal area is covered in the creamy substance and it is starting to harden to her bottom. Is this normal or should I help her clean it? Will her kittens be alright? Please get back with me as soon as you can, I am full of anxiety.

Hi Cassidy,

A discharge before birth is normal. Usually within 24 hours she will give birth. However, if you feel there might be something wrong, it is always good to get a second opinion from your vet. If she doesn't have her kits by Monday I would get her checked out. Good luck.

Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it. Before you swat me, before you strike me, remember that I have teeth that could draw blood. And claws to strike back. And yet I choose not to attack you. If I don't act right then have me checked to see what is wrong. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too will grow old. On the difficult journey, on the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Because I love you so. Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful thing without God's critters. Pass this on.
