Question

Ambush
My wife and I adopted a kitten from the Humane Society about a 1.5 years ago. They said it was a long haired Siamese but after he got older he doesnt look like one. We are very happy we got such a good cat so I really dont care what he is but people always ask. He always wants to play and never wants to be alone, Very vocal. He's Very smart. He turns on the lights before he goes into a room, he takes off any collar and hides them under the dresser. I named him Ambush cause he always hides and jumps out and tries to wrestle with our legs. I was in Iraq for a year and just got a week ago when I walked in the house the cat ran to me and started meowing and running all through the house it was crazy. Im attaching a photo. I have pics when he was kitten also, he was all white with brown legs, face, and tail. Thanks, Robert

Answer
Hi Robert.  I definitely agree that Ambush is of Siamese descent.  Perhaps he is a Siamese mix (because purebred Siamese don't have white mittens), perhaps he is a Snowshoe - a separate breed that looks similar to the Siamese.  Potentially, he could be a Ragdoll.  It's difficult to say when a kitty comes from a Humane Society, but there is no doubt that he's one of these.  If he's got a loud voice, Siamese is the most likely.

All cats with color points (light bodies and dark faces, ears, tails and legs) darken with age.  The darker the color points, the darker the body will grow with age, so the less contrast there will be between the body and the color points as the kitty gets older.  This is true of the best show cats and will be true of Siamese mixes, etc.  So while Ambush may have had an ivory body with dark points when he was younger, it's perfectly normal for him to be darkening up as he is a couple years old now, even if he is a purebred.

Best wishes to you!
