Cats/mixed breed question

Question

Little Izzy
We just adopted our 2nd kitten and although I'm pretty sure she's a mix - I was wondering if you could tell me what she might be a mix of? I'm asking because my 7 year old daughter is VERY into cats and has several books on all the different breeds but we can't find a breed that little Izzy looks similar to. I attached a photo- shes gray and in the photo some of the patches look brown but they are more of a peach/flesh color, she has spots on the back of her ear and big blue eyes. My daughter and I thank you for your time and help!

Answer
Linda,.

The reason the eyes are blue is that Little Izzy is a very young kitten,  The eyes will turn color, probably to gold or green as she gets older.

She is a domestic medium hair and the color is blue patched tabby.  I.e., it is a blue tabby with patches of cream tabby.  The "thumb prints" on the ear are part of the tabby pattern and they have come up as cream tabby in Little Izzy.  If we take the normal brown patched tabby and add the dilute gene, you get a blue patched tabby.

This pattern, color, and coat length are all well entrenched in the feral population, so she is a conglomeration of many breeds, including the American Shorthair and Maine Coon, just to name two native North American breeds.

Best regards... Norm.
