Question
Hi, i'm having trouble with my cat she is on her 3 litter. the first litter the kittens came out butt first all the kittens made it. the second litter same thing besides she had 3 kittens the first day the next day in the afternoon she was still in labour and the kitten came out to be dead. this morning were having kittens and we have 4 so far and another one is still inside and were trying to help her move it around to deliver it faster. wat should we do? she stopped trying to push. we wont be able to take her to the vet. how harmful is this to her?

Answer
Jennifer,

How do you know there is still one left inside?  Often there seems to be one more kitten left, but it often turns out not to be the case. The utersu may still be swollen, mama may be a bit constipated, thare are often some "after the fact" mild contractions.  There is usually some hemorrhaging for a couple of days after they give birth.

If she has not produced anything by now, and you are still sure there is a kitten left inside, a visit to the vet will be mandatory. Moving her around will not help her deliver any faster. We have found, over the years, mama knows the best postion she needs to be in!

As to harmful a couple of days wait should not hurt her at all.  If there is something left inside, the vet can either induce labor to get it out or, in extreme cases, have to do a c-section.

Please let me know what develops.

Best regards... Norm.
