Cats/My two persians

Question
I have two persian cats - 2 year old girl, Miyu and 1 year
old boy Mike. Miyu has been with us since she was 3 weeks
old and Mike has just come to us 2 months back. We actually
got Mike thinking that Miyu can have some company and maybe
even mate with him. But she doesnt seem to be enjoying his
company much. Though they both hang around in the same area,
the moment Mike gets anywhere near her, she starts hissing
and meawing wildly. And he just walks off. Mike is a very
friendly little one, with everyone but Miyu is on the shy
side, refusing to come out from under the bed, if any guests
come to our home. Miyu gets into heat almost once in 3-4
weeks but even then, she wont allow Mike anywhere near her.
Can you please tell me why they she is so uninterested in
him? And also is there something that can be done to make
them mate??

Answer
Kathi,

There are a couple of things you may be able to do.  First is that next time she comes into season, they need to be confined to a room where she cannot get under things, and, then, you can see how she behaves.  Also, at age 1 year old, he may not be ready to breed her, yet.  It is often difficult for two virgin cats to figure it all out at first, so you must have lots of patience.  When they are both ready, he should breed her.

There is always the situation where two cats just are not interested in breeding each other for whatever reasons.  This is not very unusual, especially with Persians.

So, you just must be persistant and keep trying them until something finally happens.

Good luck and best regards... Norm.
