amber and kittens
hi karen,

i am very concerened about the cat of my aunt who lives next door.she's a siamese cat that she adopted but her age is unknown and we also dont know if she has given birth before.

she gave birth 5 days ago december 23rd.  5 kittens and after a day another kitten but dead.  The concern now is that she hasnt peed or pooped yet.she pooped a little along with the dead kitty but after that no more.  I live in the philippines and people around here dont really spend money for vets.  I advised her to take the cat to the vet but she said she'd like wait and see til tomorrow.I hope you can help me karen.  I really love animals and if i can do something without taking her to the vet ill do it myself.(ive helped alot of bleeding animals before so i think if can do something for the cat if u think its safe)thanks alot!

Answer
Hi Devon,

How sure are you that she hasn't eliminated anything? Sometimes mother cats will eat theirs and the kits waste. This is a protective mechanism. If she is eating food and drinking water fine then I wouldn't worry too much about this. However if she goes off her food or water and starts to get lethargic then there is a problem. And this is something that I can't help you with. She could have internal problems that only a vet could deal with.
Hopefully all is well. Just keep an eye on her. Keep food and water right near her nesting box so she doesn't have to go far for it. Monitor her intake. And if all is well then relax and enjoy the new kits. Good luck and take care.

Ciao, Karen
