Question
i fronlined my kittens today at about 3. since i have done this, the mum will not go near them. she keeps calling them and smelling them but will not let them feed or go near her ?

Answer
Hi Georgina,

The mother is probably reacting to the scent of the product. You can wash the application spot with a mild hand-washing dish soap to remove any scent that is left after 24 hours without affecting the efficacy of the treatment. The scent of the soap shouldn't be as offensive as the Frontline once it's rinsed out. If the kittens are at least 8 weeks old, as recommended by the product label, they should be eating enough solid foods to hold them over without any nursing until you're able to wash the product off. If the kittens are under eight weeks, it's probably best to wash the product off right away anyway, to avoid any accidental overdosing or unexpected reactions. If there's a flea problem, it's best to use baby shampoo to bathe them and use a flea comb to get out any remaining fleas at ages younger than 8 weeks.

Best of luck!

I have 15 years of extensive experience with cats ranging from breeding to medical care. My daily routine consists of caring for cats with diabetes, thyroid disease, kidney failure, feline leukemia, feline AIDS as well as feral cats. I have experience with liver patients, heart patients, feline infectious peritonitis, cancer, recovery from amputation and trauma, congenital deformities and most every disease in between. I have assisted cats giving birth and hand-nursed kittens who were neglected by their mother from 2 days old through weaning.
