Question
""Hello,
can i put my new adopted kitten (from a shelter) in an outdoor kennel? it will be very spacious and roomy, it will have a cathouse that will protect against extreme hot or cold temps, it will have food, water ,toys, and the kitten will recieve lots of attention. i may also take it out for walks to let it get more exercise. i cannot bring the kitten inside the house due to severe allergies that others' have, but it will be treated the best way possible outside. please help, i really want this kitten.
thanks!""

Answer
Mark,

As long as the temperatures are not too extreme, hot or cold, your new kitty should be OK. Please make sure the outdoor run is covered, first to keep your new kitty in and, also, to keep predators out. In addition, you want to make sure it is tall enough for you to walk in comfortably.  There are lots of nice outdoor covered runs available.  Cats operate in all 3 dimensions, so providing a couple of sturdy tall cat "trees" in the run will add lots to the new kitty's territory.  Even though the run is outdoors, I would provide a covered litter pan for the kitten and make sure it is cleaned out regularly. You do not want the litter pan to get ultra soggy in a good rain.

Just in case the weather gets really awful, is there somewhere in side you could temporarily house the kitten, just in case?

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Best regards... Norm.
