Question
Okay, I am really nervous I came home yesterday to my cat Spartacus and she had a quarter size puncture and hair missing this happened out to of the blue I am taking her to the vet today I took her to the vet last month and found out she was starting kidney failure. I am dreading that I might have to put her down today.
Your answer about this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Bertie,

I am guessing you probably have an answer to this already, from your vet. I can't say for sure without looking at the wound, but I'm wondering if this is an abscess. These are infections under the skin that tend to go undetected until they finally rupture through the skin, causing a large exit wound. They are initially caused in most cases by a bite wound, but any kind of small puncture could cause them. Most abscesses can be treated with antibiotics and won't require euthanasia, even in a kidney patient.

However, there may be something less common going on that I'm not sure of. Your vet will have to advise as to whether a treatment would be possible and advisable for that in your kitty's case.

Best of luck!
