Question

My cat goes out daily and comes back home too. She is less than 1 year old but will be soon. Today morning she comes home with blurry/cloudy eyes. One was more blurry than the other. She ate normally and slept. After that she went out again. She comes back again and now the blurriness is less, but its still there. While examining her I noticed that the white part surrounding the iris is reddish. Her inner eyelid is not protruding or visible by the way. Also I believe its the fluid media in front of the iris is what is blurry, basically the liquid that is called aqueous humor in the human eye. I live in Bangladesh and vets are really unavailable, I am worried. This is the first time that this has ever happened. Now it seems a bit less active too, it would meow a lot, it even meows less too, and is sleeping more. I tried nothing so far. Is this common or something? Help me!

Answer
Hi Adrita,

I'm sorry your cat is having a problem with her eyes. Cats can have many reasons for eye problems like you describe. I'm afraid that I can't give you a specific reason for the eye cloudiness. Here's a link that will give you an idea of how many things can cause eye problems in cats.

I understand your problem with seeking vet care for her. You can try to treat her and hope for the best. First I would try some warm compresses on her eyes. She may have gotten something in them and irritated them. Next you can try some antibiotic for her eyes. Here's a link that gives a little bit of info about that. Just make sure the antibiotic is for the eye and is the correct strength.

If your cat has any of the typical cat diseases and the eye problem is secondary to that then you need to find better help than I can give you. Good luck and take care.

CommentThanks alot! thanx for the links, too. I think its recurring, it went away. then it started again, from the bottom side of her iris, as if a blurry liquid is diffusing into her eyes. It went away completely within these days, and her eyes are totally fine, but i think when light falls on them, they are more reflective than ever, or maybe its just me. She is also back to normal. Thanks again. My sister and I are like you, love cats and we mostly rescue them, I should have found this site and you when we found an abandoned newborn kitten who's eyes did not even open yet. We cared for it, after 2 months, it died all of a sudden, did not even give us time to realize any problem, within the span of 24 hours. It even started to play :( .
