Cats/poop sticking o my cat's tail

Question
We just adopted my son's cat.  It is a kinkolo and has very long fur.  When she poops it almost always sticks to her tail.  What's the best way to handle this in terms of cleaning and prevention?

Assuming the stools are of the right consistency and not loose, you can clip the tail and britches fur where there is sticking.  The appropriate consistency for cat poop is kind of like the consistency of tootsie rolls.

If your cat has loose stools, that may be most of the problem and you may want to check with your vet.

The best type of scissors to clip hair like that regularly is the type that are blunt ended and the end curves up (along the same plane as the clipping motion). This way you can clip and have no danger of hurting the cat.  be careful nor to clip too close as you may catch some skin in your scissors.  You should only have to clip the ends of the longest fur where the poop is currently catching.

I received a B.S. from Drexel University in 1968, a M.Math from University of Waterloo, in 1970, a Ph.D. from University of Waterloo in 1975, and a MBA from McMaster University in 1980. I received my approved allbreed judging status in the Cat Fanciers'' Association in 1999.

Awards and Honors
We have produced a number of Cat Fanciers'' Association (CFA) National winning Abyssinian and Maine Coons. We have produced a number of Abyssinian and Maine Coon Distinguished Merit females (an award for a top producing cat), including the first Distinguished Merit Abyssinian in the red (sorrel) color. I am the CFA Abyssinian breed council secretary and belong and/or hold office in a number of cat clubs. I am also a member of the CFA Judges Association.
