Cats/Spayed sister and nuetered brother mating

Question
Hi, I was hoping to gain some understanding to what happened last night. We've always had cats, now we have two at a year of age and our old man at 13, but never has this happened before. I was woken up by our little female wailing, looked out my bedroom door, and there was her brother mounted onto her. Both were "fixed" at the same time at about 7 months of age. It would have been hilarious if it wasn't for the strangeness of it, because the brother backed right off and sat behind her, both staring at me like "Oops, we were caught!" Anyways, if you would please shed some light on the situation, that would be much appreciated!

Answer
Kelsey,

This is not so strange as you may think.  First of all this is major breeding season in many parts of the northern Hemisphere.  Secondly, it is possible the neutering/spaying operation was not totally successful. I would go back to your vet to get the hormone levels tested. and then see what you find and what the vet suggests.

Usually, after neutering or spaying, it takes about 6-8 weeks for the hormone levels to dissipate.  Cats that have bred before may remember despite having normal hormone levels, but this should not be the case in your situation.

The good news is that the cats really cannot hurt each other and very well may outgrow it.

Best regards... Norm.
