Question
Hi,
I took my cat to the vet today as she is poorly he thinks its one of two things either a problem with her pelvis but most likely an infection that is effecting her motions and brain as she is limp and has lost use of her legs he has given me metacam and antibiotics to give her but i cant get her to eat anything what's the best thing to give her at present i am syringing water and milk to keep the fluids going?

Answer
Hi Nichola,

I recommend that you consult with your vet about this. If your cat isn't having any trouble swallowing, it would probably be best that you syringe feed her a food with a creamy consistency. A meat-based baby food can be used, one that contains only meat and broth, but this is not balanced and should only be used for a few days. For something more substantial that will meet all of her nutritional requirements, your vet can provide you with a prescription diet that can be syringe fed. One of the most popular ones is Hill's a/d formula. There are others, as well. These are easy to feed and are also calorie dense so they will provide extra nourishment, which cats in a diseased or debilitated state require for healing.

Good luck!
