Question
hi i have a female cat which had kittens 16 weeks ago and she got out and has just had more kittens today, but she is now trying to pick up the older kittens and drag them about by their necks is this normal we are keeping the older kittens but are going to get rid of the others once they are 8 weeks old was just wondering what to do about this

Answer
Hi
this is completely normal behavior for a cat.

A cats instinct is to chase the older kittens away so that there is enough food and territory for her latest litter. this is natures way.

To change this behavior you should have your cat spayed before she can get pregnant again.
this can be done once her latest litter are all weaned which is between week 8 and weeek 12. once weaned the kittens can be rehomed too.

best wishes kate
