You are here:

Cats/Cat behavior of stray cat BUT I have a cat

I have an approx. 8 yr. old female  sterilized cat that mostly stays outdoor (live in the tropics) but feeds in my house& also comes inside. She is our pet & we love her but she likes to roam around & no neighbor  has expressed inconveniance, she will not stay inside the house all the time . Apprx. 3 months ago another cat began begging for food around our property & unfortunately we gave him some food. This cat became very agressive with our cat. We suspended giving him food, but he STILL hangs around trying to get inside to eat our cats food. He confronts her and have had almost deadly fights. My 8 yr. old cat has become extremely nervous and when eating looks around nervously. How can I GET RID of the intruder without harming my cat! I can'nt have another cat?

Cats will do what cats will do! Except for making her an indoor only cat, you have no control over the situation. Cats have long memories and the interloper will try to get more out of you forever!!!!!!!  You can always try feeding your eight year old in an interior room where there are no windows.

You might try catching this male and getting him tested, inoculated, neutered and released, which may calm things down a bit.

I have no other suggestions.

Best regards... Norm.

I can answer most non-veterinary questions about cats. My particular expertise is pedigree cats, breeding and showing. However, I am versed in feline behavior, cat breeds and their characteristics, general feline husbandry, and the like.

I judged for the Canadian Cat Association from 1975 until 1982. I am currently an approved allbreed judge for the Cat Fanciers'' Association (the world''s largets cat registry), and have been judging for them since 1991. I have been breeding pedigreed cats since 1971 and have been exhibiting pedigreed cats in shows since 1970. I obtained my first pedigreed cat in 1970 and have never looked back. In 1971, I obtained my first Abyssinian which has become my primary breed. In addition, I have bred Manx and Persians. Currently, besides the Abyssinians, I am also breeding Maine Coons.

Cat Fanciers'' Association, inc. (CFA) and the Manx, Maine Coon, and Abyssinian breed councils. I am currently Abyssinian breed council secretary.

I received a B.S. from Drexel University in 1968, a M.Math from University of Waterloo, in 1970, a Ph.D. from University of Waterloo in 1975, and a MBA from McMaster University in 1980. I received my approved allbreed judging status in the Cat Fanciers'' Association in 1999.
