Cats - my 7 month old kitten

Expert: Norman Auspitz - 5/13/2007

Question
i have a 7 month old kitten and i was just wondering how old they have to be and how do you know if they are in season she keeps turning her backside towards me when she is near my face and when i pat her near her tail i dont want to breed her and i also want to know how long they are on for

Answer
Alicia,

The kind of behavior you describe is indicative of being in season.  Some other more annoying symptoms are constant loud meowing and peeing in places they should not be.

I would get her spayed as soon as possible or she may find a way to get out and find a male.

They can be in season for a few days until a couple of weeks.  They can be in season and go out and not come back in for months or come back in every two weeks.  Every cat is different and every season is different!

Best regards... Norm.
