Cats/Box Training a Stray

Question
We are moving out of state and would like to take a stray cat which has adopted our garage as his home.  We think he's about 14 years old.

Over a week ago, I put a litter box in the garage and he is using to pass stool, but has yet to urinate in the box.  Since we will have him in a hotel room for 3 nights, this is a big concern.  Any ideas of how I can get him to use the box completely?

Answer
HI Amy,
That's going to be hard to do since he is 14.  You can buy large collapsable cages that you could keep him in while in the hotel along with his litter box.   It's hard to say, depending on his personality, he may squall the whole time he is caged or he may not.....put a comfy bed in there for him too.   If a cage is out of the question, then all you can do is try....just keep the litter box very clean , as some cats won't use it if it is dirty.  Good luck!

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
