Question
Hello and thank you. My cat is over 1 year old and it seems to be getting more and more annoying as the days go by. It seems to scratch away at the carpet underneath a door whenever it is closed and someone is inside that room. It especially likes the bathroom and bedroom doors. I am losing hours of sleep because of this. I place towels or books at the bottom of the door to prevent it from doing so but it manages to move the books and rip the carpet up. What can I do? It is destroying the carpet as well as my sanity.

Answer
HI Robert,

Guess what?  I have a cat that does the exact same thing.  I like to keep my dogs in one room while I'm gone, and since there is no litterbox in there, I keep my cats out.  My manx has torn up the carpet where the door is!  I really don't know what to tell you to do.  The only solution is to leave the doors open.  The thing is..... cats love to go where they aren't allowed!  IF you have a drawer open, they will try to get in it.  My cats love to get into the linen closet if someone leaves the door cracked.   It's just their nature!   Sorry, wish I could be of more help, but  I have the same problem, and I'm sure a lot of cat owners do.

God Bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
