Cats/Cat Foods?

Question
Hi, I am curious to hear your thoughts on cat food.
My feline situation:
1 - 9 yo female (6 1/2 pounds)
1 - almost 2 yo male (12 1/2 pounds)
1 - almost 2 yo femail (9 pounds)

Feeding exclusively dry food.  Previously were on Science Diet adult maintenance.  My boy cat has some nose issues that are under investigation so I have (under advice of vet) been trying different high quality foods to see if I could eliminate a possible alergen.

Have tried IVD (rabbit & green pea)
Solid Gold katzen-flockn
Natural Balance
California Natural
Innova

None of the foods solved the nose problem so we are still working on that but in the meantime I have done so much research on foods that I am now a bit concerned about going back to Science Diet as a regular diet.  There are a lot of people that say bad stuff about this food, although my vet highly reccomends it...

Also, with some of these natural foods at least one cat has had loose stools,  I am currently almost completely transitioned to Innova, and will be curious to see what the outcome will be with this one.

What are your thoughts on these premium diets / natural diets as compared to something like Science Diet?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Liz,

This may not be want you want to hear, but I have to tell you that I feed my cats Friskies!  I have tried all different kinds,  and I have never seen a big difference. When I was showing, I fed Iams.   I think Science Diet is a good brand too.  But honestly, my cats prefer Friskies, and since I had one live to be 17 years old, then I must be doing something right.   The only time I would probably consider a special diet would be for males, if they tended to have urinary blockage problems.

Good luck to you though!  and God bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
