Expertise
I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.

Cats - Cat Prob

Question
I have two cats - Brutus, the gray, tiger-stripe & Fate, the Tortoise Shell.  My first problem is that Fate has a tendency to (since we've had her) randomly pick a spot "near" the litter box to do her #2!  We think we keep the litter boxes clean, but perhaps we don't know what we're doing.  I'm not sure why it is that she does this, but it makes some faces turn a bright red when guests come over & it's happened.

The second problem is with both cats.  They both have an unending desire to eat plants, flowers, etc.  When they do, they always throw up on the floor - Why a cat would continue to eat the plants after he/she keeps throwing up - I can't answer.  Is there some way to keep them from doing it via a spray that doesn't hurt the plant, but makes them taste bad to the cats?

Finally, my last problem is with Brutus.  This cat throws up (hairballs, etc.)  on a weekly basis or so.  Is there anything out there that can treat this issue?  All these problems make it tough to own animals & have guests over, while at the same time, trying to keep the carpet clean.  They always seem to choose the carpet as opposed to the hard-floors - Go figure!

Thanks in advance for your help!
Adam

Answer
Hello Adam

You are experiencing very typical cat behaviour!  LOL, sorry, to laugh, but I know exactly what you are talking about as my cats do the same things.

Regarding the litter box, the only thing that might possibly help is to get a bigger box.  My cats are actually in their box but their bottom end is sometimes not, therefore the "poop" ends up outside of the box.  Could this be your cats' problem also?  Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you ,as cats have some pretty funny habits.

Regarding the plants:  Cats love to eat plants period.  I know there is a special kind of grass that you can buy at a pet or feed store sold especially for cats to nibble on, but who knows if that will keep them away from yours.  You need to be careful, also, as some houseplants are poisonous to cats.  I keep cactus only because they don't bother it....LOL.   When I previously had large plants, mine would use them for litter boxes, so I gave up on that too.

Regarding hairballs:  I have found a great solution for my cats, and that is I put some soft margerine on the bottom of their paws and they will lick it off.  This helps cut down on hairballs, although they still sometimes barf one up.   And yes, I agree with you, it's alwasy on the carpet!  However, I have found a great stain remover called Oxyclean Spray that does a terrific job getting out stains.

I hope this helps, but I know that cats have a mind of their own, and I usually end up conforming to THEIR way!!  lol

God Bless,
Becky
