Question
I have an indoor cat who is overweight. After talking with the vet we agreed on feeding routines as well as how much and what type of food I am to feed him so he will lose weight. That was 2 years ago! My cat is still overweight, he needs to lose like oh 3-4lbs. How can I make him lose more weight?  Also alot of what is left is the excess skin how can I get rid of that?

Answer
Hi Aimee,

Have you tried putting your cat on a weight reduction type of food?  Science Diet makes a good one.  Also, exercise would be the key.... you can get those toys for cats that give them exercise... the type that you hold in your hand and dangle a toy or whatever at him.  Having him jump back and forth trying to catch it, would be good for him.  Most pet type stores carry these types of cat toys.   I don't know what to tell you about the excess skin.  Maybe your vet can help you on that ?  I know this isn't much help to you.   Keeping a "fat" cat at a normal weight is hard to do.  They're like people, some cats just tend to weigh more than others.  (kinda like Garfield...lol)
Good luck to you!

God Bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
