Cats/Cat grooming behavior

Question
Hi.

We have a very affectionate male cat (neutured) that is named Sage. Lately, he has started 'grooming' me...licking my hair, and gently nibbling my ears and throat. I've seen him do this to the other cats we have...is he grooming me? Why? How can I tell him that I appriciate his affections, but to not lick my hair?

Also, another male cat that we have, Mr. McSqueaks, does not like my mother. She has never done anything mean to him or anything like that, but he refuses to go near her. How can we get him to 'like' her...at least let her pet him?

Thank you,
Amanda

Answer
Hi Amanda,

Yes,  your cat ,Sage, is definetly grooming you!  It's because he loves you.  Mine do the same thing, and that tongue can be so rough on the skin!!  LOL  I really don't know what you can do about it.

As far as Mr. McSqueaks goes, who knows if he will ever take up with your mother.  Some cats are "one family" cats and just don't like "intruders".  Time will tell.  Maybe have her offer some kind of juicy morsel.

I'm not much help am I?   Good luck though!

God bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
