Question
A large adult male cat has taken up winter residence in my garage and my wife feeds him every day when she feeds are domesticated cats.

This cat won't let anyone near him but he has hhad several serious fights and some of these are infected.

Is there any kind of medication we can mix with his food to help overcome this ?

We would take him to a vet but as i say he won't let anyone even touch him.

Answer
Check to see if there are any groups in your area that work with feral cats, or cat rescue groups that can help you. Sometimes they will assist by providing a humane trap so you can cage the cat, and bring him to a vet who is capable of dealing with an obviously street-wise intact cat (not all are).

Infected bites are serious, and since you have your own cats, they could also become infected, if not by the bites, then by other infectious diseases like FIV.

I don't know of any meds that can just be added to the cat's food to take care of the infected bite wounds, but a vet would definitely be much better at answering that question.

Good luck with the cat; he's lucky you and your wife are taking care of him.
