Cats/Cat throwing up

Question
Hello - my neighbor has a 3 month old cat who is sick and she cannot afford to take her to the animal hospital.  She is throwing up and has diarrhea.  Is there anything over the counter that she can get at Pestmart for this?  What else can she do?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Marianne,
You can help stop the diarrhea with some Kaopecate.  Give about 1/2 cc 2-3 times a day.  If she is throwing up, she may not keep it down.  The kitten definetley needs Veterinary care. If the vomiting contineus, she will dehydrate.  Some Vets will let you make payments, or perhaps the animal shelter can tell you of a low cost alternative. If you don't do something, the kitten might die.  There is a reason for these problems, and masking them won't cure it.  She needs help.

God Bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
