Cats/Cat urinating on the couch

Question
I have two neutered males and one female who has been in heat for about a week. I am not sure which one had an accident on the couch, but this has never happened before. None of them have ever had an accident anywhere in the house. I found one urine stain a few days ago. I cleaned it and sprayed it with a pet odor treatment. I retreated the spot last night just to be sure I got all of the odor out, but then woke up to another urine stain right next to the old one. First, do you know if it is more likely to be one of the males or the female in heat? Second, is there something more I should do to treat the area? Finally, is there anything else that I can do to help prevent this from happening in the future? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Kristen!

I think it is probably your female doing this. It's because she is in heat. I would have her spayed as soon as she comes out.  To make sure you get the urine odor out where the cats can't smell it, use a solution of water and vinegar.  Vinegar is cheap you can buy it at the grocery store. It is a very good deodorizer.  Test an area on your couch first though to make sure it doesn't ruin it. I have used it on carpet before with no problem.  (one part water mixed with one part Vinegar).  Cats in heat do odd things, and she will probably continue to do this unless you cover it up , or keep her out of there.  Take an old shower curtain and cover your couch, or put her up somewhere where she can't get to it.
Hope this helps!

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
