Cats/Cat wetting the bed

Question
I have a purebred Cornish Rex male, one year old.  When I first got him, he urinated only on my bed about three times before I thought to deter him by putting a plastic table cloth over the bed.  He stopped doing it.  I also have two kitty litter boxes that I keep very clean and change frequently, and he does use these all the time.  My cat is very attached to me and seems to need a lot of attention.  Recently, I started taking my cat outside for walks with me.  Now he howls to go out and started wetting only the bed again and only when I am standing right by the bed to see him do it.  I caught him in the act twice in a row and scolded him and put him in the kitty litter box.  Even with the plastic covering over the bed, he still urinates on it.  He seems to do it only when I am there to see it.  Also, I am not home much because I have to work, but he has a companion.  Please advise.

Answer
Hi Rachel!
Wow, I can't believe he does that right in front of you!  What a brat!  LOL   Have you had him checked for urinary tract infection or bladder infection? It may not be the problem, but I know that cats will urinate in unusual places when they have this problem.  Honestly, though, unless he is straining and also frequently going to litter box, I doubt that is it.  Check though, just to be sure, that his urine is not a pinkish color which would mean there is blood in the urine.
Honestly, Rachel, since he is also using his litter box, I really do not know what to tell you.  I have good advice on re-training cats to use a litter box, but this sounds more like some kind of psychological thing.  Have you tried keeping your bedroom door shut and not letting him on your bed?  I don't know if it will help, but it sure couldn't hurt.

God Bless,
Becky

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
