Question -
We have 3 male cats vying for the same territory inside our house by leaving their mark, spraying.
Is there anyway to change their behavior so that they go outdoors?
Answer -
Cal,
First and foremost, they need to be neutered.  If they are used to being inside, it is cruel to put them outside, especially with winter conditions.  If they will not get along, then perhaps you may want to place two of them in another home.  As heartbreaking as that could be, to me, that's better than putting a cat outside that is used to be inside, especially in cold weather.

God Bless,

Dear Becky,
Our cats get along pretty well, they use a doggy door to come and go as they please and they have all been neutered. Our only problem is them spraying all over our house.

Regards,
Cal

Answer
Cal,
Since they are neutered then I doubt they will stop. It is definetley a territorial thing.  If they are used to going outdoors, and if you don't live in an area that has severe winter temperatures, then if it were me, I would put them outside. Just make sure they have a place to get away from rain/snow or whatever.  If temps drop below freezing, you will definetely need to bring them in though.  Also, make sure there is a clean water supply. You can buy special bowls at pet centers that keep water from freezing.  I hate to say it, but I really doubt they will ever stop spraying since they have started.  Usually neutered males won't spray, but once they start, it is practically impossible to stop it.  Use a mixture of vinegar and water and a good commercial cleaner that gets rid of pet odors to clean up the house.  I wish you the best.

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
