Question
I have 2 Cornish Rex cats.  Both of them have claws that have turned brown, one of them also has brown on her tongue and her fur on her baeck legs looks darker (she is white and a gray spot).  My regular vet does not know what it is.  This cat was also born without tear ducts and has had a broken jaw before.  (She fell off a table when I was not home, my mother's nurse said)  I know this has to be some kind of fungus or something.  I have been giving her acidolphilus in her food, but so far it is not getting better.

Answer
Hi Janet!

Gee, your Vet is not much help is he?  I don't really know what that could be, I would think your Vet would run some kind of test.  If I were you, I would take her to a different Vet.  And I'm not so sure the story about your cat falling from a table is legit.....cat's don't break their jaw falling .....cats may fall but rarely do they get hurt like that.  Are you sure someone didn't kick her?  I don't mean to sound so hateful, it just makes me wonder how she could break her jaw by falling from a table.  Anyway, I wish I could help you, but I really don't know what it is.  You may be right, it could be a fungus.  If so, she needs to be on meds.

Good luck and God bless!

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
