I am sorry to hear your friend's cat died. I don't think it is a good idea to give a cat to someone else, especially if they are grieving. If she is meant to have another cat, she will find one herself. If the kitten is not spayed yet, you can tell your friend about http://www.spayusa.com where she can find low cost spay services in her area, kittens should be spayed or neutered at 6 weeks of age, as long as they are healthy.
