Cats/Ear Tattoos
Expert: Becky - 9/30/2006
QuestionMy Oriental Shorthair named Brady was neutered today. Along with that, he got a microchip and a tattoo for identification. I didn't do my research so I didn't realize that the tattoo goes right in the ear. Orientals have big ears with little hair so the tattoo is very visible. I was too embarassed to ask the vet but I was wondering if there is any way it can be removed, or if it becomes a lot less visible with time. I know I'm being superficial but I'm fairly upset by it.
AnswerHi Carlie!
That would infuriate me!! I don't blame you for being upset either! They do not have to put the tattoo in the ear!! I have a dog that was tattooed, and they put it on her stomach. I cannot believe they did that. I have had two Orientals in the past, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I am sure that this has somewhat taken away from the beauty of the breed, and I am sure you are sick about it. I would certainly let the Vet know that you are not pleased with this decision. I am just flabbergasted that, for one... you were not asked WHERE you would like the tattoo to be, or at the very least ,they could have put it on his stomach!! I am so sorry, but I don't think it can be removed. It will not become less visible either. I am still in shock over this and you really should complain about it. I am so very sorry that this has happened. Obviously, the Vet has no idea about the Oriental breed, how their ears are a very distinct part of them. For that matter, I don't know of ANYONE who would want a tattoo showing on the EARS of their pet. I am so sorry.
God bless,
Becky
