Cats/Hairballs in Siamese

Question
Dear Becky,

I have a Seal Point Siamese and two other domesticated cats (one long haired the other short).  They are strickly indoor.  My Siamese is the only one out of the 3 that gets hairballs.  Is this typical of the breed?  I have found that the over the counter medicine doesnt work.  Are there any "Home Remedies" that I could try?  I also feed her the Purina Indoor Formula cat food.  I have seen in a pet supply store of a cat food that is strickly made for Siamese.  Would this help any?  Once in a great while she will vomit her food.  I dont give them any can food.  If that food would be better, would it be safe for the other 2 cats to eat?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Tricia,
If you really want to feed your cats the best food on the market, go here :  www.healthypetnet.com/iaad
click on "healthy pet net" then on the left, click on "cat food".   It is the best out there for your cat!!  I do not use it, because quite frankly, I simply can't afford it.  But I know people that do use it and swear by it. As far as hairballs go, try this.  Put a dab of butter or margerine on the bottom of one of their front paws. They will lick it off and will actually like it.  This will help pass hairballs. Do it once a week , then cut back to every other week.  If it givs them diarrhea, cut back sooner.  The cat food made strictly for Siamese is probably a very good food, but I don't think it's necessary to buy a food strictly for a certain breed. Also, my cats vomit their food ever now and then, most cats do.  Personally, I think they overeat!!

God Bless,
Becky

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
