Cats/Lump on cat's throat

Question
My cat has a large lump on the left side of his throat.  It has only been there for acouple of days, because i stroke him on the throat all the time, and I just noticed it yesterday.  It is spongy and kind of moves if you press on it.  It doesn't seem to bother him.  I don't think it is an abcess.  What could it be?

Answer
Hi Rosanna!

This could be several things.  It could be a fatty tumor. If you have other cats or dogs, it might be a bite that has gotten infected.  It may be an enlarged salivary gland.  It's hard to say without seeing it myself and of course, I'm not a vet, so even then it would be a guess. If it moves around, more than likely , it's a fatty tumor.  If I were you though, I would definetley have it checked just in case it's not. One thing good, you caught it early so if it needs to be removed, it shouldn't be a big deal.

God Bless,

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
