Question
I HAVE 2 INDOOR ABYSSINIANS. A 1 YEAR OLD AND A 12 MONTH OLD, SO I HAVE KITTEN AND ADULT FOOD. THEY ARE EATING EACH OTHERS FOOD WHICH I WAS TOLD BY THE VET WASNT GOOD. MY QUESTION IS HOW CAN I STOP ONE FROM EATING THE OTHER FOOD.

Answer
Hi Andrew,
I'm confused....you say you have a one year old and a 12 month old......wouldnt' they both be one year old?  I guess there is a typo???
If your kitten is under one year old, but close to one year old, I would go ahead and put them both on the adult food. If your kitten is very young, then put them both on kitten food.  It really won't hurt your adult cat, it just has more fat.  To be honest, you're not going to do any permanent damage by feeding either one.   There is no way of stopping them from eating each others food if you free feed.  I have the same problem with a 12 year old cat and a new kitten in the house.  So I put all of them on kitten food.  It works out fine and will be much less stressful than trying to keep them apart.

God Bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
