Question
Hi there,

I have been cat sitting a friend's 2 cats (brother and sister) for approximately 3 months.  They are 1 year, 3 weeks old and have been together ever since birth.  The problem is that my friend has moved into a house that has a person with allergies, and I am moving into a house with a person with allergies as well.  We cannot afford to put them in a kennel for an extended period of time - the earliest either one of us could take them back is 9 months.  I am mostly concerned about ensuring that they have a good, safe and loving home.  I have not found anyone that will take two cats, but I know several people that will take one cat.  Is this wrong to do since they have been together their whole life?  They play with each other, share the same litter, eat from the same dish, but they don't sleep together.  I really want to make the right decision.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Erin

Answer
Hi Erin,
You really should try to keep them together.  They will miss each other and will probably be depressed if you separate them. Cats do not like change, and this kind of change is even worse.  I bet if you put an ad in the paper and simply state that they have always been together and need to go together, you might get a reply. If not, call your local humane shelter and see if they can help you place them.  Just be sure it is a no-kill shelter.
Good luck and God bless!

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
