Question
It's just one little hour a week, though.  Is there any way to keep it quiet for an hour?  I have a nice big yard.  Could I trick it into thinking it wants to be out of sight?  Are all of them vocal or just most?

Thanks bunches,

manda

I love reading "The Cat Who.." books and have fallen in love with the idea of having a Siamese.  I'm trying to see if that's a smart thing to do, though.  Here are the issues:

1) Once a week for one hour there is a gathering at my house to which cats are not invited.  A screaming cat locked in the bedroom would be a problem.

2) I have a fairly large indoor dog.  She has lived with cats before including a moody Maine Coon, and an active tabby.  She's never had a problem.  She doesn't demand attention so I'm not sure if the cat would feel threatened or not.

3) I have a 4 year old. Would a Siamese be more likely to bite and scratch?  If my son bothers the cat I would expect it to defend itself, but I fear the extreme case of him being in fear of trying to get a toy car sitting beside the cat.

Is there any way to train a Siamese so that these things won't be a problem?

Thanks,
manda

Hi Manda!

I also love the "Cat Who" books and have read them all!  That Koko and YumYum are something else....but in your case, a Siamese would not be feasible, only because they are very vocal and your first concern is having a cat crying in a bedroom.  I guarantee you ,  if you put a Siamese behind a closed door, you will HEAR it.

Your other concerns are no problem with the Siamese breed. I have raised my kids around them and never had any of those problems.

If you want a cat that has Siamese marking,  try the Himalayan.  They do have long hair though,  and that can be alot of vacumming!

Good luck and God Bless!

Answer
Manda,

All that I have ever come in contact are..... but then, that's the Siamese... they like to talk to you!
Do you have a garage?   For only one hour a week, I would put her in a crate and put her in the garage.  There, she can cry all she wants and won't disturb your guests.

God Bless,
Becky

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
