Question
Hi Becky,
I have 3 cats in the house, one who is 3 years old has been throwing up his food once a day to every second day. The second cat is around 16 years old and generally healthy, although this morning she also was throwing up which seems to be out of character for her.  The third cat which is in the house is 1 year old and is fit and healthy.  The two cats who have been throwing up seem to be fine otherwise, they are still eating and drinking, and chasing each other around the house. Do you have any ideas on what could be the cause of the cats throwing up?
Also can cats get virus'and if so can people catch them off their cats?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Kylie Carson

Answer
Hello Kylie,

Cats will vomit even when they are not necessarily sick, by either overeating or because of hairballs.  My cats do it all the time!  You can put some butter or margerine on their paws and let them lick it off, which will help with hairballs.   Yes, cats can get viruses, but no, people cannot catch them.  You need to have your cats vaccinated yearly against them.  Your vet can tell you more about the type of vaccines that you need.
I wouldn't worry too much about the vomiting if they are active and othewise acting ok.  Try the butter trick and see if that helps.
God Bless,
becky

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
