Cats/Spaying?

Question
I am new to cat ownership at 40 years old.  I found a little stray hanging around my driveway and crying a lot.  After a few days of attention and love in the yard, I brought her in my home.  She has been to the vet and she is a healthy girl.

I want to know about spaying... She is not now, nor will she ever again be an outside cat.  She will also be my only cat even though I think she is just fantastic.  I am not worried at all about pregnancy.  I am however worried about other health complications if I don't have her spayed.  What is your opinion about spaying vs. non-spaying when considering an inside, single cat?

Thank you! :)

Answer
Hi Macie,

I would definitely recommend spaying your cat.  Even though she stays inside, she will still go through a heat cycle that can be quite annoying.  But most important, by having her spayed, it will help prevent medical problems such as cysts, ovarian and uterine cancer.  She will be a much better pet if she is fixed.

God Bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
