Cats/Tangles and Mats

Question
I found a stray cat the other day, and she has long-hair; however, she didn't have a single mat or any tangles in her fur, and I was wondering if that meant that she has an owner who brushes her, or if there are types of cats that don't mat easily. thanks!

Answer
It is possible that this is someones well cared for kitty.  However, it could be that she does indeed, have a coat that is not as easily matted as others.  Some are softer, almost like rabbit fur, and more prone to matting.  It is also possible that this cat takes very good care of her own coat.  Some cats will clean and groom their coats quite often, keeping down tangles and subsequent matts.  Hope this is helpful.
