Cats/Whistling To My Cat

Question
Hi Tina,

I was just wondering if you could answer my question on cat behavior. My cat is like a dog, she comes running whenever I whistle. But I when she's in my lap and I start whistling to her, she goes crazy! She starts purring madly, rolling around and rubbing her face on mine. Why is this?

Answer
Hi Meg,

My guess would be that she associates the whistle with pleasant things, like food and affection, and so hearing it makes her very happy. She is reacting to you as she would to her mother calling her - so she views you as her "mom". It sounds like your cat loves you a lot, how sweet! I have never seen a cat do this - your cat sounds very unique.
