Cats/adding a kitten

Question
I have a very social 2 year old male cat, very active and loves to be with people. I also have a 9 year old female, very reclusive cat.  Both are healthy.  I think the male cat needs more activity during the day while I am at work, I thought a kitten would be helpful, what do you think?  If you agree, should it be male or female?

Answer
Hello Dottie,
I think it's a fine idea to give your active boy a playmate!  A kitten will surely keep him busy!  My suggestion is that you go with a male kitten.  Male cats seem to be naturally more social, not as territorial as females can be.   (Dogs are quite the opposite!)
Good luck with this, and thank you for your inquiry as well as your intrest in this site.
Hope to have been helpful,
