Cats/cat's belly

Question
Helly Becky,
My cat Skeeves was spayed on January 22, 2007.  She had her stitches removed and they said everything looked fine.  Her belly is sagging a little.  I am feeding her once a day in the morning time dry cat food.  She is done eating by 3 or 4 in the afternoon and is ready to eat more by 7-9pm.  I don't want to over feed her.  I use to feed her twice a day and she was putting on weight, she still is.  Right now she is 12 pounds.  We got her when she was 6 weeks old June of 2004.  I'm not sure how cat's ages go.  I know they are not like dogs.  How do they go.  My questions are, 1.  How many times do I need to feed her?, 2., do I need to be concerned about her weight?, amd finally. 3. how do the cats ages go? How old is she really?  June 2004 she was 6 weeks.  And how do I get her from biting me so hard?  She loves to play and bites really hard.  She doesn't know how to ease up.  She leaves me bleeding sometimes.  So she gets popped sometimes.  But I know she loves me because she sits on me and she sleeps with me.  She a very loveable cat.  I'm just concerned about those things.  could you help me out. I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Robin!
I presume you are referring to a dog's age 1 year=7 human years.  I don't know if that's valid, and I haven't heard of any type of calculation for cats.  If your cat was born June 2004, then she is almost three years old.  I wouldn't count on any other way to calculate it.
You need to buy a good quality cat food and go by the directions on the bag.  You don't want her to get too fat, and a lot of it depends on how active she is.
Some cats bite when playing. If she is biting too hard, tell her NO in a loud voice and a quick pop on the nose, not too hard, will let her know you mean business.

God Bless,
Becky

I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
