Question
We have taken in a stray male cat. The vet says he has some years on him.He seems healthy but tends to vomit an orange liquid quite often. He may go 2 or 3 days and not do it. We feel him a natural dry cat food from purina and a small amount of wet. There doesn't seem to be any hair and absolutely no hairballs in the vomit. Just the constant orange color. Can you help? Thanks

Answer
Hi Becky!
I think what you are seeing is bile, which is gastric liquid from the stomach, which means his stomach is upset.  It may be from the food because it is probably different from what he ate before. If I were you, I would just continue to keep an eye on him, and if it continues take him to the Vet to make sure it's not a more serious problem.  I tend to think it will go away.  In the meantime, you can feed him a little bit of cottage cheese which tends to smooth the stomach.  Whatever you do , please do NOT give anything like pepto bismol, as it contains aspirin and is fatal to cats.

God Bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
