Cats/drooling and smacking

Question
My female cat for the past day and a half has been drooling and smacking her mouth. There is a brownish tint to her saliva. Is this something i should be concerned about?

Answer
Hi Josie,

Yes you should take your cat to the vet as soon as possible. The brownish tint is most likely blood and could be from a nosebleed (which may or may not be serious), an oral abscess, or she could be vomiting up blood into her mouth from a stomach ulcer. Hopefully she just had a nosebleed that has drained downwards, but it's best not to wait and see.
