We got a new kitten about a month ago and she seemed ok apart from a little diarrhea.  Our male cat played with the kitten alot and he developed Haws Syndrome (where the white membrane in the corner of the eye protrudes) and severe diarrhea.  We thought he was unwell cos he had eaten a couple of birds recently so just kept and eye on him.  However, our female cat developed the same condition.  We took her to the vet and he said she had Haws Syndrome, which mainly refers to the eyes.  I have since done some reading and the "Torovirus" seems the most likely culprit.  You kittens will need to see a vet to administer antibiotics, because this virus will just keep passing between them.

But Sacha, you said steroid shouldnt be used in their case, but tobradex drops and ointment contain steroids, it has dexamethasone, and this is a steroid.

I can answer most non-veterinary questions about cats. My particular expertise is pedigree cats, breeding and showing. However, I am versed in feline behavior, cat breeds and their characteristics, general feline husbandry, and the like.

I judged for the Canadian Cat Association from 1975 until 1982. I am currently an approved allbreed judge for the Cat Fanciers'' Association (the world''s largets cat registry), and have been judging for them since 1991. I have been breeding pedigreed cats since 1971 and have been exhibiting pedigreed cats in shows since 1970. I obtained my first pedigreed cat in 1970 and have never looked back. In 1971, I obtained my first Abyssinian which has become my primary breed. In addition, I have bred Manx and Persians. Currently, besides the Abyssinians, I am also breeding Maine Coons.
