Question
Every since my cat was a kitten he has been very verbal. He howls in different pitches and chirps and makes all kinds of interesting noises.  He lets me know when he comes in the room, and when he is about to do anything, like jump up on the bed, he makes a noise. He now nine years old.

What I want to know is why does he go around the house howling for no reason? He has everything he needs. Since he was a kitten he has done this, and he is perfectly healthy. He particularly did this in the basement in my old house. Other times he would do it when me and my now ex-husband would come home from a trip. He would see us and then run down to the basement and howl. Other times I hear him howling when I leave the house. I give him plenty of attention but he has always been high-strung and hyper-active and he is often aggressive. I have contacted someone else about the aggressiveness. But I am curious about the howling. Holly

Answer
Hi Holly!
I wonder if he has Siamese in him.  They are extremely vocal.  I think he is just "talking" to you or at least some type of communication.  In the basement, it may have echoed. Maybe he liked hearing his own voice!  LOL.  I'm not really sure why he does it, but I think he likes to talk!

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
