Question
i have a cat that's about 13 years old. I love her to death but when we recently got a new kitten we got fleas. after we got rid of the fleas my cat still has soars around her neck from scratching. can i put anti-itch cream on her neck to help her from scratching and opening them up more?

Answer
Hi Rachel,

She sounds like she has an allergy to the fleas. What are you using to get rid of the fleas? If you aren't, use either Frontline for cats or Advantage for cats. To stop the itching give her Chlorpheniramine (Chlortrimeton TM) 4mg, 1/2 tablet twice a day, (if she is a normal size cat). It's an antihistamine. This will stop her itching. Put a little Neosporin on the the sores.  If the sores do not heal up in a week or two, then take her to the vet. He needs to examine her. Good luck.
