Question
I have a male and female cat. The female is pregnant by the male that is in the house with her. When she has her kittens will the male try to kill the new kittens?

Answer
Hi Rhonda,
I am not a breeder, but I will try to help you on this. I think the female will NOT let him near her kittens!  You probably should keep him away for awhile anyway, so as not to stress her out.  I think once the kittens are older, he will probably play with them. Who's to know?  Cats all have different personalities.  I think time will tell whether or not he will be agressive.  If he is, then you will know to be careful when he is around.  Just take it slow and see how he reacts, however at first... I would just about guarantee you that the mamma cat will not let him near those kittens!  He might be not mean any harm at all, but that will be her protective instinct.

God Bless,
Becky

Expertise

I am not a breeder,so please direct any breeding and/or birthing questions to an "expert" that is. I love all cats but my favorites are the Rex and Siamese. I used to show Cornish Rex as a hobby but have not been able to for a few years. Right now I have three Siamese and one Cornish Rex. As a former veterinarian assistant, I can help you with general healthcare issues. Being a cat owner for years, I will be glad to answer any behaviour and/or nutrition questions too. Please remember, I am NOT a Veterinarian, so if your kitty is seriously ill, please do not hesitate to contact a Vet.
