Expertise
I can answer most non-medical questions about cats, but as I am not a vet I would not be able to diagnose illness (let alone diagnose over the Internet) I have had over 10 years of experience with cat behaviour, and have been a moderator on a cat website for almost a year now.

Experience
I have had cats my entire life, and am quite familiar with most personality/behaviour issues.

Cats - moving home

Question
i have recently adopted my aunts one and a half year old cat as she has moved home and is not allowed to take her with him. I was wondering when it will be safe to let him out of the house roam around the garden. thanks

Answer
Hi Lisa,

I'm personally a big fan of having indoor cats only, letting them outside for supervised play (on a leash) or in an enclosure- kitties actually don't mind being inside cats if given enough stimulation in the form of toys and scratching areas.

If you want to let kitty outside, I'd suggest leaving him inside with you for at least six weeks so he gets used to his new home, otherwise he might try to get back to your aunts house as that is what he knows as being home.

Good luck with whatever you decide, and what a great thing you've done taking kitty into your home :)
