Question
my cat "max" shed all year around and real heavy. is that a bad thing? and is there a way to stop it?

Answer
Excess shedding is usually do to a lack of fatty acids in the diet. Switch your cat to a quality meat based canned cat food, such as Wellness, Nature's Variety or Innova Evo, and you should see an improvement in his coat after a month or so. Also high quality canned food is much healthier for your cat:
